| Optical Drive Loading Mechanism [tray vs slot]
Remembered a friend back in 1998 bought a slot loading optical drive, and had a debate of slot vs tray loaders. So now I will resurrect this epic battle. (for the uninitiated, the majority of optical drives are tray loaded (ie you press the eject button and a tray slides out for you to put your disks in) though there's a few slot loaders around the place) |

Slot Loading Odd
A slot-load disc drive is a disc drive that has no caddy or tray and allows the computer user to insert the disc into a thin slit. The picture shows an example of a slot-loading disc drive on the side of an Apple iMac computer. If no eject button is visible next to the slot, the disc may only be removed from the computer by using the operating system.

When I first used a slot loader a few years back, it kinda scared me. |
